Base Hosptal - Thambuththegama, which is under the provincial council of North Central Province is the only base hospital available for all the Galgamuwa, Rajanganaya, Thalawa, Giribawa, Nochchiyagama, and Galnewa divisional secretariats. It was established as a primary hospital in 1986 under Mahaweli project. In 2017 it had 8 consultants and 43 medical officers (where the expected carder was 68), and 88 nursing officers.
It is facilitated with a Paediatric, Medical, Surgical, Anaesthetic, Nephrology units and a PBU since it has been upgraded to a base hospital in 1999. Still the bed strength, number of wards and the other facilities in the hospital are not adequate to meet demand.Tel - 025 2276262
