Infectious Disease Hospital (Fever Hospital) , is now known as National Institute of Infectious Diseases. The hospital had a bed strength around 220 in 2017, which is sometimes less than the total number of admitted patients.
It is a high service level hospital focused on infection control, HIV and and other Infectious Diseases. A specialized unit established for Dengue management in 2010. It has became the best institute for Dengue Management In the Colombo district.
ICU and pediatric Unit have been established recently under the supervision of relevant consultants.
Although located in a very urbanized area near Colombo, the hospital premises, buildings and the wards are planned and placed apart with trees and bushes in such a way, to optimize ventilation to minimize transmission of infections, also for which all the universal precautions are taken bythe staff.
